Samyagdrsti (skt). (A) Nghĩa của Chánh Kiến—The meanings of Right Understanding—Hiểu được bốn sự thật cao quí. Sự hiểu biết nầy là trí tuệ cao cả nhất nhìn thấy sự thật tối hậu, nghĩa là thấy sự vật đúng là như thế. Đây là giai đoạn đầu tiên trong Bát Thánh đạo—Right understanding, right views, or knowledge of the four noble truth. This understanding is the highest wisdom which sees the Ultimate Reality. That is to say to see things as they are—Understanding the four noble truths, the first of the eightfold noble path. (B) Phân loại Chánh Kiến—Categories of Right Understanding—Theo Tiến Sĩ K. Sri. Dhammananda trong Những Hạt Ngọc Trí Tuệ Phật Giáo, có hai loại Chánh Kiến—According to Dr. K. Sri. Dhammananda in the Gems of Buddhism Wisdom, there are two sorts of understanding: 1) Phàm Kiến: Kiến thức về một sự tích lũy của trí nhớ—an accumulated of memory, an intellectual grasping of a subject according to certain given data. 2) Thánh Kiến: Hiểu biết thật và sâu xa, hay thâm nhập, nghĩa là nhìn sự vật đúng bản chất của nó, chứ không theo tên hay nhãn hiệu bề ngoài. Sự thâm nhập nầy chỉ xãy ra khi tâm ta đã gột rữa hết những bất tịnh và đã hoàn toàn phát triển qua thiền định—Real deep understanding, a penetration or an intellectual seeing a thing in its true nature, without name and external label.
