Lúc đó đức Thế Tôn giơ cánh tay sắc vàng xoa đảnh ngài Ðịa Tạng đại Bồ Tát mà bảo rằng: Ðịa Tạng! Ðịa Tạng! Thần lực của ông không thể nghĩ bàn, đức từ bi của ông không thể nghĩ bàn, trí huệ của ông không thể nghĩ bàn, biện tài của ông không thể nghĩ bàn. Dầu cho các đức Phật ở mười phương khen ngợi tuyên nói những sự chẳng thể nghĩ bàn của ông trăm ngàn muôn kiếp cũng chẳng hết đặng—At that time the World Honored One raised his gold colored arm, and again rubbed the crown of the head of Earth Store Bodhisattva Mahasattva, and said: “Earth Store, Earth Store, your spiritual powers, compassion, wisdom and eloquence are inconceivable. Even if all the Buddhas of the ten directions were to proclaim their praise of your inconceivable deeds, they could not finish in thousands of ten of thousands of aeons.

Nầy Ðịa Tạng! Ðịa Tạng! Ông nên nhớ hôm nay Ta ở trong cung trời Ðao Lợi, nơi pháp hội lớn có trăm ngàn muôn ức bất khả thuyết, bất khả thuyết tất cả các chư Phật, các vị Bồ Tát, các hàng trời, rồng, tám bộ chúng đây, một lần nữa đem các hàng chúng sanh, những kẻ ở trong nhà lửa ra khỏi ba cõi, mà giao phó cho ông. Ông chớ để các chúng sanh đó phải bị đọa vào ác đạo, dầu là chỉ một ngày một đêm, huống chi lại để cho họ phải bị đọa lạc vào địa ngục Vô Gián cùng địa ngục A Tỳ, mãi đến ngàn muôn ức kiếp không lúc nào ra khỏi ư—Earth Store! Earth Store! Remember that today, in the Trayastrimsha Heaven in this great assembly of the hundreds of thousands of ten thousands of millions of indescribable, indescribable numbers of all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, gods, dragons, and other members of the eightfold division, I again entrust to you the humans, gods, and all other beings who are still in the burning abode and have not yet left the Triple World. Do not allow those beings to fall into the evil paths even for a single day and night, much less fall into the Uninterrupted Hell of the Five Offenses and the Avichi Hell, where they would have to pass through thousands of tens of thousands of millions of aeons without being able to leave.

Nầy Ðịa Tạng! Tâm tánh của chúng sanh cõi Diêm Phù Ðề không định, phần đông quen theo thói ác, thoảng hoặc có người phát tâm lành, nhưng rồi không bao lâu liền thối thất, còn như duyên ác lại luôn luôn tăng trưởng. Cũng vì lẽ đó, nên Ta phải chia thân nầy ra trăm ngàn ức để hóa độ, thuận theo căn tánh của họ hầu cho họ được giải thoát—Earth Store! The beings of Jambudvipa are of irresolute will and nature, and they habitually do many evil. Even if they resolve their thoughts on good, in an instant they turn back on that resolve. And if they encounter evil conditions, in every thought they tend to become increasingly involved in them. For this reason I duplicate hundreds of thousands of millions of bodies to transform living beings, to take them across and liberate them, all in accord with their own fundamental natures.

Nầy Ðịa Tạng! Hôm nay Ta ân cần đem chúng trời, người giao phó cho ông. Trong đời sau như có hàng trời người cùng thiện nam thiện nữ nào trồng chút ít căn lành ở trong Phật pháp, chừng bằng sợi lông, mảy trần, hạt cát, giọt nước, thời ông nên dùng đạo lực của ông ủng hộ người đó, làm cho người đó tu tập lần lần đạo hạnh vô thượng, chớ để họ thối thất—Earth Store! I now earnestly entrust the multitudes of humans and gods to you. If, in the future, gods or human beings, whether good men or good women, plant a few good roots in the Buddhadharma, be they as little as a strand of hair, a mote of dust, a grain of sand, or a drop of water, use your virtue in the Way and spiritual powers to protect them so that they gradually cultivate the unsurpassed Way and do not retreat from it.
Lại vầy nữa, nầy Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát! Trong đời sau, hoặc có trời hay người nào phải theo nghiệp mà thọ báo bị đọa vào ác đạo, đến khi bị đọa vào chốn ác đạo, vừa bước đến cửa ngục, những chúng sanh đó nếu có thể niệm đặng danh hiệu của đức Phật, hay danh hiệu của một vị Bồ Tát, cùng một câu kệ kinh điển Ðại Thừa. Ông nên dùng thần lực của ông tìm phương chước cứu vớt các chúng sanh đó, ông nên hiện thân ra trước kẻ đó, phá tan địa ngục làm cho họ được sanh lên cõi trời hưởng sự vui vi diệu thù thắng.”—Moreover, Earth Store! If in the future, humans or gods who ought to fall into the evil paths as karmic retribution are on the verge of falling into those paths, or are ready at the very gates to those paths, are able to recite the name of one Buddha or Bodhisattva, or a single sentence or verse of a Great Vehicle Sutra, you should use your spiritual powers to rescue them with expedient means. Display to them a limitless body, smash the hells, and cause them to be born in the heavens and to experience supremely wonderful bliss.

Bấy giờ đức Thế Tôn liền nói kệ rằng—At that time the World Honored One spoke in verse, saying:

“Ðời nay đời sau chúng thiên nhơn,
Humans and gods and other beings of the present and future,

Nay Ta ân cần dặn bảo ông;
I now earnestly entrust to you;
Dùng đại thần thông quyền độ họ.
With great spiritual penetrations, skill-in-means (skillful means), take them across.

Ðừng cho ác đạo đọa vào trong.
Do not allow them to fall into the evil paths.”

Bấy giờ ngài Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát quỳ gối chắp tay bạch Phật rằng: “Bạch Ðức Thế Tôn! Cúi xin đức Thế Tôn chớ lo. Trong đời sau , nếu có người thiện nam cùng kẻ thiện nữ nào, đối với trong Phật pháp có một niệm cung kính, con cũng dùng trăm ngàn phương tiện độ thoát người đó, làm cho mau đặng giải thoát trong đường sanh tử, huống nữa là nghe các việc lành rồi luôn luôn tu hành, tự nhiên ở nơi đạo vô thượng không bao giờ còn thối chuyển—At that time Earth Store Bodhisattva Mahasattva, knelt on one knee, placed his palms together, and said to the Buddha: “World Honored One! Please do not be concerned. If good men and good women in the future have a single thought of respect toward the Buddhadharma, I shall use hundreds of thousands of expedient devices to take them across so that they may quickly attain liberation from birth and death. How much more will those who have heard of goodundertakings and whose every thought is of cultivating, never retreat from the unsurpassed Way.

Lúc ngài Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát bạch lời nói trên đó vừa xong, trong pháp hội có một vị Bồ Tát tên là Hư Không Tạng bạch cùng đức Phật rằng: “Bạch Ðức Thế Tôn! Từ khi con đến cung trời Ðao Lợi nầy được nghe đức Như Lai ngợi khen oai thần thế lực của ngài Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát. Trong đời sau, hoặc có người thiện nam cùng thiện nữ nào, cho đến tất cả hàng trời, rồng, vân vân nghe kinh điển nầy và nghe danh tự của Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát cùng với chiêm lễ hình tượng Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát, thời những kẻ ấy được bao nhiêu điều phước lợi? Cúi mong đức Thế Tôn vì tất cả hàng chúng sanh ở hiện tại và vị lai mà nói lược việc ấy cho.”—When this was said, a Bodhisattva in the assembly named Empty Space Treasure spoke to the Buddha: “World Honored One! I personally have come to the Trayastrimsha Heaven and have heard the Thus Come One praise the inconceivable power of Earth Store Bodhisattva’s awesome spiritual strength. If in the future good men or good women, as well as gods and dragons, hear this sutra and the name of Earth Store Bodhisattva, or if they gaze at and worship his image, how many kinds of blessings and benefits will they obtain? Please, World Honored One, say a few words about this for the sake of the living beings of the present and in the future.”

Ðức Phật bảo ngài Hư Không Tạng Bồ Tát: “Lắng nghe! Lắng nghe cho kỹ! Ta sẽ vì ông mà nói rõ việc ấy cho. Trong đời sau, người thiện nam cùng thiện nữ nào thấy hình tượng của ngài Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát và nghe kinh nầy, cho đến đọc tụng, dùng hương hoa, đồ ăn món uống, y phục, vật báu mà bố thí cúng dường ngợi khen chiêm lễ thời kẻ ấy được hai mươi tám điều lợi ích như sau đây—The Buddha told Empty Space Treasure Bodhisattva: “Listen attentively! Listen attentively! I shall enumerate them and describe them to you. If there are good men or women in the future who see Earth Store Bodhisattva’s image, or who hear this sutra or read or recite it; who use incense, flowers, food and drink, clothing, or gems as offerings; or if they praise , gaze upon, and worship him, they will benefit in twenty-eight ways:

1) Các hàng trời rồng thường hộ niệm—Gods and dragons will be mindful of them and protect them.
2) Quả lành càng ngày càng thêm lớn—The fruits of their goodness will increase daily.
3) Chứa nhóm nhân vô thượng của các bậc Thánh—They will accumulate superior causes of Sagehood.
4) Mãi không còn thối thất đạo Bồ Ðề—They will not retreat from Bodhi.
5) Ðồ mặc món ăn dồi dào đầy đủ—Their food and drink will be abundant.
6) Những bệnh tật không đến được nơi thân—Epidemics will not touch them.
7) Khỏi những tai nạn về lửa và nước—They will not encounter disasters of fire and water.
8) Không bị hại bởi nạn trộm cướp—They will not have any difficulties with thieves or armed robbers.
9) Người khác thấy đến liền sanh lòng cung kính—They will be respected by all who see them.
10) Các hàng quỷ thần theo hộ trì—They will be aided by ghosts and spirits.
11) Ðời sau thân nữ sẽ chuyển thành thân nam—Women will be reborn as men.
12) Ðời sau sẽ làm con gái hàng Vương Giả, Ðại Thần—If born as women, they will be daughters of kings and ministers.
13) Thân tướng xinh đẹp—They will have handsome features.
14) Phần nhiều được sanh về cõi trời—They will often be born in the heavens.
15) Hoặc làm bậc vua chúa—They may be emperors or kings.
16) Có trí sáng biết rõ việc trong những đời trước—They will know their past lives.
17) Có mong cầu chi cũng đều được toại ý—They will attain whatever they seek.
18) Quyến thuộc an vui—Their families will be happy.
19) Các tai vạ bất ngờ đều dứt sạch—All disasters will be eradicated.
20) Các nghiệp về ác đạo đều trừ hẳn—They will eternally be apart from bad karmic paths.
21) Ði đến đâu cũng đều không bị sự trở ngại—They will always arrive at their destination.
22) Ðêm nằm chiêm bao an ổn vui vẻ—At night their dreams will be peaceful and happy.
23) Những người thân tộc đã chết có tội thời được khỏi khổ—Their deceased ancestors will leave suffering behind.
24) Nếu về đời trước có phước thời được thọ sanh về cõi vui sướng—And they will receive the blessings from their past lives to aid their rebirth.
25) Các bậc Thánh ngợi khen—They will be praised by the sages.
26) Căn tánh lanh lợi thông minh—They will be intelligent and they will have sharp faculties.
27) Giàu lòng từ mẫn—They will have magnanimous, kind and sympathetic (compassionate) hearts.
28) Rốt ráo thành Phật—They will ultimately realize Buddhahood.

Lại vầy nữa, nầy Hư Không Tạng Bồ Tát! Như có hàng trời, rồng, quỷ thần ở hiện tại và vị lai nghe danh hiệu của ngài Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát, đảnh lễ hình tượng của ngài Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát, hoặc nghe các sự về bổn nguyện tu hành của ngài Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát mà ngợi khen chiêm lễ, thời sẽ đặng bảy điều lợi ích sau đây—Moreover, Empty Space Treasure Bodhisattva! If gods, dragons, or spirits of the present or future hear Earth Store’s name, bow to his image, or merely hear of his past vows, deeds, and practices, and then praise him and gaze at and worship him, they will benefit in seven ways:

1) Mau chứng bậc Thánh—They will quickly reach the Sages’ ground.
2) Nghiệp ác tiêu diệt—Their evil karma will be eradicated.
3) Chư Phật đến ủng hộ—All the Buddhas will protect and be near them.
4) Không thối thất Bồ Ðề—They will not retreat from Bodhi.
5) Bổn lực được tăng trưởng—Their inherent powers will increase.
6) Việc đời trước đều rõ biết—They will know their past lives.
7) Rốt ráo thành Phật—They will ultimately realize Buddhahood.

Bấy giờ bất khả thuyết bất khả thuyết tất cả các đức Phật và đại Bồ Tát, cùng tám bộ chúng trời, rồng, vân vân ở mười phương đến dự pháp hội đó, nghe đức Thích Ca Mâu Ni Phật ngợi khen tuyên bày sức oai thần lớn chẳng thể nghĩ bàn của ngài Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát, đều khen là việc chưa từng có—At that time, all those who had come from the ten directions, the indescribable, indescribable, numbers of Buddhas, Thus Come One, as well as the great Bodhisattvas, gods, dragons, and the remainder of the eightfold division who heard Sakyamuni Buddha’s praise of Earth Store Bodhisattva’s great, awesome, and inconceivably spiritual powers, exclaimed that there had never been anything like this before.

Lúc đó trời Ðao Lợi rưới vô lượng hương hoa, thiên y, chuỗi ngọc để cúng dường đức Thích Ca Mâu Ni Phật và Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát xong rồi, tất cả đại chúng trong pháp hội đều lại chiêm lễ chắp tay mà lui ra—At that time, incense, flowers, heavenly garments and pearl necklaces rained down in the Trayastrimsha Heaven as offerings to Sakyamuni Buddha and Earth Store Bodhisattva. When this was finished, together the entire assembly again gazed upward, worshiped, placed their palms together, and withdrew.

Kinh Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát Bổn Nguyện—Hết Quyển Hạ—This ends the third roll of the Sutra of The Past Vows of Earth Store Bodhisattva.

Nam Mô Thường Trụ Thập Phương Tăng (3 lần)—Namo Eternally Dwelling Sangha of the ten directions (3 times). Nam Mô Ðịa Tạng Bồ Tát Ma Ha Tát (3 lần)—Namo Earth Store Bodhisattva Mahasattva (3 times).

Lạy đấng Tam Giới Tôn
Bowing to the World Honored Ones of the three realms,
Quy mạng mười phương Phật,
Taking refuge in the Buddhas of the ten directions,
Nay con phát nguyện rộng
Resolving broadly,
Thọ trì kinh Ðịa Tạng.
Those who practice and cultivate this “Earth Store” sutra (that the merit and virtue from this work).
Trên đền bốn ơn nặng,
Repaying four kinds of kindness above,
Dưới cứu khổ tam đồ,
Aiding those suffering in the paths below,
Nếu có kẻ thấy nghe
May those who see and hear of this,
Ðều phát Bồ Ðề tâm,
All bring forth the resolve for Bodhi,
Hết một báo thân nầy
When this retribution body is over,
Sanh qua cõi Cực Lạc.
Be reborn together in ultimate bliss.

Nam Mô Bổn Sư Thích Ca Mâu Ni Phật (3 lần)—Namo Sakyamuni Buddha (3 times).
